Baja!

11 December 2015  HAPPY BIRTHDAY JEN HAYES! and SCHOOLS!
CHILLY, ID - SAN IGNACIO, BAJA SUR (SOUTH) 1670 Miles

Back in Baja  BABY! We are loving the warmer weather and fish tacos; of course.
Crossed the border at Calexico/ Mexicali crossing. Border patrol was very nice and helpful. walking us to each office and telling us exactly where to go,and with a smile. I like coming into this country. Unfortunately we don't welcome foreigners the same way when they enter ours.
We had to get a temporary vehicle import since we are crossing onto the mainland and not just traveling through Baja.  A deposit of $200 which I'll get back upon leaving the country with my vehicle. We did have a little trouble finding this office which was about a 20 min. drive from the border. After almost crossing back into the U.S.A. at the other border crossing at the east end of town we found the correct office. So if you are planning on crossin.  The first of many Military check point made my day. As he's checking our van he sits down in the back seat, looks around and says " this is beautiful." I think that's the first time anyone said our van is beautiful. I love this country!

Just crossed maybe the most remote  part of Baja, The Desierto Vizcaino. Really neat cacti, rocks and mountains. Looks like something out of a Dr. Suess book.

We have had some amazing camp spots right on the water, from the Sea of Cortez to the Pacific ocean. One of my favorites was the La Jolla in Ensenada. Upon check in the host gave us a bottle of wine, 4 fresh pollo tamales, and a xmas card as a Christmas gift! The camp spot was right on the Pacific ocean with hot showers and only $12.
